As part of my work to support promotion for the Data Science Summer Institute at LLNL, I pitched the idea of developing a student video series with a "behind-the-scenes" vibe. Students want to hear from other students, so being able to capture their perspective felt like the right way to go to ensure another year of strong applications. We promoted these across social platform, and achieved over 2,000 applications. Below are glimpses from the LinkedIn posts shared from our ma

I supported the development and rollout of this policy communication tool through: Strong project management to keep our team and two external partners in sync during development. Product development support, including reviewing and editing 10 versions and collaborating with the authors, partners, and designer to ensure a smooth process of finalizing the report. Strategic development, under tight timeframe, of a comprehensive promotion kit which included a press release and

Soon after I started with the Data Science Institute at Lawrence Livermore National Lab, I picked up a project that came out of the “Strategy Alignment on AI Safety” workshop convened by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and University of California (UC) at the UC Livermore Collaboration Center (UCLCC) in April 2024. I helped edit the content, double checked references (and found missing references for points the researchers were trying to make), formatted the ref

I developed a number of fact sheets for the Biomonitoring program in the Division of Laboratory Sciences at CDC. This fact sheet on arsenic is just one example. Arsenic Factsheet Arsenic, a naturally occurring element, can combine with either inorganic or organic substances to form many different compounds. Inorganic arsenic compounds are in soils, sediments, and groundwater. These compounds occur either naturally, or as a result of mining, ore smelting, or when using arseni

As the senior communication specialist for the Office of the Director for Laboratory Science and Safety, I handled all marketing and communications activities for the Office, whether it was developing articles, campaigns, and other promotion products; organizing and promoting agency-wide events; developing and presenting communication strategy to leadership; or, as you can see below, developing an evaluation report for the pilot project we were managing for the office. This i

As a communications specialist based in the Office of the Director, I supported all communication needs for all 6 branches and 50+ laboratories in the Division of Laboratory Sciences. This included the Newborn Screening and Molecular Biology Branch. This brochure was developed to comprehensively convey the work accomplished by this branch, which included the Newborn Screening Quality Assurance Program, translation research, and genomics. At CDC I had the opportunity to do the two things I loved: to write about science, all while working alongside world-renown scientists, helping them to market their programs in the best possible way to gain partners and funding, educate the public, and ultimately, improve health outcomes. I learned a great deal along the way and am thankful for the near-decade that I spent there. One project that I led was the development of the Tobacco Lab Brochure linked below.
